While French horn player John Graas and alto saxophonist Art Pepper met and worked extensively for the Stan Kenton big band they would only collaborate on a few small band recordings. This release presents them all including two complete iconic LPs by the legendary John Graas Nonet: Jazzmantics (Decca DL8677) and Coup de Graas (EmArcy MG36117). Among the featured stars are none other than Conte Candoli Buddy Collette Jack Sheldon Herb Geller Jack Montrose Red Mitchell and Shelly Manne. Their other small group collaborations consist of two Shorty Rogers dates and another one led by Graas presenting his own “Jazz Chaconne No.1”.
