This Elemental Music release presents After the Rain, Muddy Waters’ sixth studio album and a follow-up to the previous Electric Mud. Both albums feature the talented Otis Spann on piano and Phil Upchurch on guitar. However, unlike Electric Mud, After the Rain contains mostly original compositions by Waters, and the songs, while still distorted, are less overtly psychedelic. Released in May 1969 by Cadet Concept Records (Chess sub-label for experimental rock and more adventurous music) this masterpiece is full of raw Chicago blues, with psychedelic, fuzzy guitars and groovy bass lines, combined with the gruff, heartfelt tones of Muddy Waters.
