The music on this album, recorded in April 1953, marks the definitive moment in Frank Sinatra’s comeback after his career appeared to have come to a close in 1952. This was an extremely difficult period for the singer, both personally and professionally. Musical tastes had changed, rock & roll was emerging and many felt that Sinatra had become passé, a product of an earlier period with nothing more to contribute to popular music.
