Miles Davis played and recorded with Sonny Rollins on and off from 1951 to 1957. This CD presents their complete collaborative LP Collectors’ Items (Prestige LP 7044) which contains two sessions from the early Fifties. The first one marked the only occasion on which both Rollins and Charlie Parker shared the same studio (with Bird playing on tenor sax). The second one is a more typical quintet date fronted by Davis and Rollins. Another complete quintet session showcasing the trumpeter and tenor saxophonist has been added here as a bonus along with Miles’ only other existing reading of Dave Brubeck’s “In Your Own Sweet Way” taped just a few months after the initial version from Collectors’ Items.
