The music on this CD was recorded live by Stan Getz in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in 1959-60. By that time the saxophonist was living in Europe, where he toured various countries with his quartet (he also often played with a variety of big bands). The pianist on all of these tracks is Jan Johansson, who would die in a car crash in 1968 at the age of 37.
Two other American expatriates also back Getz on a number of tracks: the brilliant bassist Oscar Pettiford (who would die shortly after these recordings were made on September 8, 1960, also at the age of 37), and drummer Joe Harris. Also featured here is drummer Ed Thigpen, who along with Ray Brown was a member of the Oscar Peterson Trio at the time. Swedish tenor saxophonist Erik Norström joins the quartet on the final shows presented here.
