Description
James Roger McGuinn (known professionally as Roger McGuinn is probably best known as a founder member of American band The Byrds. The band was formed in 1964 in California with fellow members Mike Clarke, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Chris Hillman and was originally part of what would be termed the folk rock boom. The bands first hit was a majestic cover of the Bob Dylan song Mr. Tambourine Man which featured the jangly sound of Roger McGuinn’s twelve string Rickenbacker guitar which would go on to become the signature sound of the band. Whilst with The Byrds Mcguinn recorded a number of highly regarded and groundbreaking albums. At the time of the bands split in early 1973 McGuinn was the only founder member still remaining although the original line up reformed for a one off reunion album for David Geffen’s Asylum label later in the year. Following the split the band would r3eform a number of times but never with a full compliment of original members.Mcguinn embarked on a successful solo career recording albums and performing with a number of bands. He also performed as part of Bob Dylan’s legendary Rolling Thunder Review in 1975 and 1976. In the late seventies Mcguinn would hook up with former Byrds colleagues Gene Clark and Chris Hillman in the short lived soft rock trio Mcguinn Clark and Hillman before returning to a solo career which continues to this day. This DVD captures an intimate solo performance from Roger McGuinn with a set list jam packed with Byrds classics such as Feel A Whole Lot Better, The Ballad Of Easy Rider, You Showed Me, Mr. Spaceman. Throughout the concert performance the film cuts to interview segments where Roger McGuinn explains how some of the songs came about and gives a history of his career and of course the Byrds.
